There was a weird thumping noise coming from the attic, so I went up to investigate and found nothing. Then when I went outside to check I saw the above sight.
No, that’s not an owl on my roof.
Yes, that was the cat on my roof this morning. No worries; the cat is just on the roof. Nothing to stress about or anything. I mean, what’s the worst that could happen. Oh… Hrm… Here, kitty-kitty! Come down, please?
Eventually he did come down, though. Or, well; he made it down to the gutter and then sat there confused as I tried to lure him over to the garage roof so he could jump down onto the old pig pen and down to the ground. After that adventure he wisely took refuge in the greenhouse – one of his favourite hang-outs on chilly mornings.
It was 7C / 45F when I woke up this morning, and though it is now (6pm) only just under 20c / 70F the sun is out in full force, so it has been hot enough for me to bask on the lawn in my underwear while the cat has been wise enough to hide in the shade of a shrub. And yes, I did fall asleep, but fortunately not for long enough to get burnt – and I have now retreated into the shade.
This summer living? I can get used to it… Fresh strawberries with breakfast, lunch and dinner, days where “mowing the lawn” is the only item on the to-do list…
It looks as though the cat is making himself at home. My brother used to have two cats who loved to drape themselves over the ridgeline of the roof and bask in the warmth of the sun on summer mornings.
It just worries me a bit, considering that he HAS managed to actually fall off a chair… (He didn’t land on his feet! Myth debunked…)
But yes, he seems to feel at home so far, though he sulks a bit when I try to teach him to wear a collar, use a litter box or travel in a transport box… All in preparation for the day when I finally take him to town, because eventually he WILL have to split his time between town and country. He will be so disappointed by my apartment…
I wonder if cats are not in part showing off when they climb on roofs. As if they want to remind us they are much better at climbing than we are.
We had exactly the same weather on the same day – we woke up it was only 7 and it got to 20 or so even if it was sunny (but windy).
Well, he certainly looks proud of himself in the second photo! The trouble is I don’t quite trust his climbing skills; last week he managed to fall off a chair on two separate occasions, so I’m not too keen on him being on the roof… But I guess there’s nothing I can do about that.
This morning we’re finally getting some rain; it’s much-needed, both for the lawn and the vegetable garden, though it does seem to confuse the cat who apparently thinks my garden should always be sunny and dry…
