I woke up this morning to this view:
Snow falling heavily outside, covering the cemetery in a blanket of soft, white flakes. Very pretty, but hardly spring – will you agree?
However:
Outside it might be snowing
But inside I hope it’s growing!
I’ve sown a batch of cobea scandens / Cup and Saucer flowers that The Flâneur Husband gave me – along with other seed packets – as a “congratulations on your first day at work” bouquet. All right, so the convention is that when you buy your partner flowers you generally don’t ask them to grow them themselves, but… Will you agree that four packets of seeds is the perfect flower present for a gardener? Especially seeds that should be sown 4-6 weeks before the last frost…
It means we have a little piece of spring – with promise of summer – in our window in the apartment, and I really look forward to seeing something emerge from the soil!
Time to celebrate spring…we are due for some last minute snow as well but it will be gone and replaced with flowers before we know it…happy seed growing 🙂
The forecast is for freezing temperatures for the next fortnight, so it looks like spring won’t arrive this side of Easter… But maybe in April?
It will come eventually, of course, and I look forward to it so much!!!
Just a bit more patience, spring will be with you soon! Great choice on the Cobaea scandens, such a gorgeous climber that is 🙂
I think my husband did quite well with his choice of seeds. There were some good summer flowers that will grow easily, and then the cobea scandens that will require a bit more nurturing but has the potential to be a star in the garden come summer!
Flowers are flowers, whether in the moment or not. It is a lovely gift.
It is, and he got the flowers very right, even if it might have been by luck rather than savvy. But then; our garden is based on trial-and-error – and luck!
Hello there : ) .. well, I would be more of the “give me the fully grown flowers” haha .. I am not good with seeds .. I hold a packet of seeds in my hand and you can hear the wee things screaming because they know they don’t have a chance with me. But yours will be fine : )
Spring ? what is that ? .. absolutely no sign of anything pertaining to that season here what so ever .. can you tell I am ticked off with it all ? LOL
My garden is the same .. “Trial and Error” .. only human right ? wink wink
Joy
“Spring” is a fictional concept that I’m not sure I believe in any more… Yet, a gardener can hope and dream, right?
(As for the flowers, we had two bunches of branches from the garden as well as a “welcome bouquet” from my new job, so we were quite well supplied in that respect anyway…)
[…] and nothing to do in the garden anyway. However, the solitary cobea scandens seedling that I posted previously has now been joined by one other seedling – and a third seems to be craning its neck in […]
