>This afternoon when I came home from work I took a small walk around the desert that now surrounds my apartment building, just looking at the flat, barren soil and hoping that it will become nice eventually. (Yes, I guess that in spite of my socialist and liberal leanings I do have rather a conservative streak when it comes to my surroundings, hence perhaps the somewhat 1950’s decor of my sitting room.)

Two ivy plants had survived due to their small stature and their horisontal growth, so the bulldozers hadn’t gotten to them. Well, what is a man to do when faced with such plantlings in distress, other than pull them out and bring them inside to a pot of soil, a drink of water and a bit of TLC. Who knows; if they can survive a bulldozer, maybe they can also survive in that corner of the garden where nothing so far seems to want to cover up that rather dreadful fence we have towards the road.
Here’s to hope!
>I just read a glowing review of your blog on Jean's and I thought that I would come and take a look. I also have a city apartment and a 'weekend' house. Mine is a two and a half hour drive north of Toronto and a work in progress. As you know, it is a labour of love looking after a property that you cannot spend as much time at as you wish. Looking forward to following your adventures…
>Most plants would rather face a bulldozer than be killed in my house. I'm great with outdoor plants, but indoor plants…I never seem to able to keep them alive. I'm all right with succulents. But ivy? I've killed it both times I've tried to grow it. 😦 Good luck, you seem to be better with indoor plants!
>Kilbournegrove: I was immensely flattered by that review, of course, so now I need to make an effort to live up to it… I look forward to browsing through your blog and finding inspiration in another "part-time" garden.Kyna: I tend to forget about my indoor plants untill I suddenly realise I haven't watered them for several months and they've died completely. They will go up to the garden with me on Friday so they get a chance out in the real world.
