This morning I suddenly looked out the window and saw a squirrel playing around in the hammock! Unfortunately, by the time I made it out with my camera, the little fellow was about to leave the hammock for a less rocking location in a nearby tree.
It is quite a windy day, so I don’t blame the fellow for seeking a less turbulent perch, but I thought it was too cute for words when it was sitting in the middle of the hammock, rocked by the wind and seemingly enjoying the ride.

Love the hammock! It looks so inviting. I bet the little squirrel just wanted to take a quick nap!
I think he went in there for a joyride, more likely… It flips and turns in the wind, so it would be a rather moving place for such a small fellow. Still, a squirrel in your hammock; how adorable is that?
At a previous house we had a frequent squirrel visitor. We named him Cyril and he would treat us to all sorts of acrobatic manoeuvres along our washing line and destroyed several bird feeders along the way. He was a grey squirrel. ‘A rat with good PR’ was how I heard them once described. I like them even though they have had a huge impact on the native red squirrel population.
I’m sure your squirrel had a great time negotiating your hammock. They are very inquisitive creatures. You’ll have to keep an eye out to see if he/she returns.
Our garden has several hazel bushes and a load of pine trees, so it has always been squirrel heaven… I see them quite often in the garden, but seeing this fellow in the hammock just brought it to a completely new level of cuteness.
We don’t seem to have grey squirrels here, at least not in any numbers that endanger the native squirrels. Both out here in the country and around our city apartment it still seems red is definitely the colour to wear for squirrels.
Love it !Maybe it’s a chilled out squirrel
He was definitely more active in the hammock than I normally am. My only movements in the hammock are to either turn a page in my book or to reach out for my coffee/wine/whatever on the ground next to it.
You have to watch those little beasts in the hammock. A squirrel at my place decided to chew up the seating on my outdoor furniture. He left a big tear in the material. Now I have to replace is on all four chairs and the umbrella if I want them to match, what an expense he cost me.
I have yet to see any squirrel-related incidents in my garden, so it seems my squirrels are better behaved than yours. Or perhaps there’s just so much FUN to be had from swinging in the hammock that they don’t have to turn to vandalism to entertain themselves? Either way, fingers crossed that they will stick to eating my nuts and digging down acorns depots in the lawn.
