- Pack up loads of plants from the windows of the apartment and bring them up to the garden.
- Dig a hole for that poor blackcurrant that has been lingering on top of the ground – yet surviving – for nearly a year now…
- Mow the lawn/jungle if and when the weather is suitably dry.
- Plant up pots in the courtyard.
- Weed the Ambitious Border and the Evening Border.
- Sow the vegetable garden.
- Build ad hoc cloches for the tomatoes and dahlias.
- Divide and plant the hostas from my mother’s garden that have overwintered in a pot in the courtyard.
- Wash all the bedlinen to get that musty winter smell out of them.
- Take at least one outing on the fjord in my kayak.
It’s a tall order, but if I get just half of it (okay, two thirds!) done I’ll be happy enough.

Good luck. I should be doing those things but am running away to Wales for a week – I’ll potter in the garden up there – and pick up again down here from 6th May!
Running off for a week seems like a good idea… Why don’t I ever do that? (And why am I planning a weekend of gardening by day and ploughing through the entire pack of corporate policies at night to create a brief summary for our MD?)
I have no idea why you don’t run away for a week – especially with your lovely little country retreat! Although I must admit I’ve just volunteered to do the Press & PR for my local Transition Town so I will be spending evenings updating press lists, getting up to speed on their projects (local currency projects anyone) and looking for a part time employment opportunity!
A busy weekend planned there. This is the first weekend for a while that we have no real plans. Hubby is on-call so we can’t go far and he has to crack on with degree stuff anyway and the weather is meant to be wet for most of the weekend. I might do some more seed sowing and make a trip to the garden centre for some bits and pieces. Don’t work too hard and enjoy the kayak!
There will be time for some R&R as well, promise, though mainly mental rather than physical; I just had an afternoon of DOOM at work (though of course I rocked, or tried to), and I’m packing up loads and loads of plants to bring on three different modes of public transport…
-And tonight will be me, a bottle of red and a nice book, all three of us cuddled up in front of the fire!
A busy time of year indeed, but the rewards are worth the effort! Happy gardening!
The rewards are already there, of course, since just being in the garden is such a joy, and there are leaves and flowers and birds and deer, so even if I didn’t do anything this weekend it would still be a lovely place.
(But… I want MORE! Of EVERYTHING!)
