Just moments ago my husband ordered this contraption to be delivered in the store near the summer house and garden. Sure, it’s rather ugly, probably won’t be the fastest craft on the fjord and definitely won’t be as graceful when cleaving the waves as the kayak he bought me for a wedding present.
But… It’s a two-seater, so it means we can go on outings on the fjord together, and that does sound very romantic. After all, we didn’t just buy the summer house for the garden, but also for the surroundings – fjords, forests, meadows…

(Above you see the kayak I got as a wedding present from him; a pure-breed racing kayak, designe to cut through the waves, rather than bounce merrily on top of them.)
Yesterday he also bought the above painting for our apartment where we have a huge white wall, just begging for a large painting or similar. I love the paleness of the background combined with the popping colours of the flowers and the very loose “choreography” of the different elements.
Yup, my Flâneur Husband knows how to make me happy!
(Another thing that makes me happy is that I’ve taken Friday off work so I can have a three-day weekend in the garden… Who knows; maybe I’ll get the lawn mowed this weekend?)

The kayak sounds like lots of fun !!
The kayak (my wedding present) is excellent fun. In a sprint it gets close to 20 miles per hour, and over longer distances the marching speed is about 7 miles per hour. (The inflatable canoe will be a lot slower, but then there will be company!)
How sweet! My husband, too, purchased an inflatable canoe for me several years ago (really!) (not as nice as yours though), and the children borrowed it and lost the plug.
Love the painting! How wonderful that your husband knows your taste and can please you.
It took us ages to find a painting we both liked – and that I thought would go with our sitting room – so it’s not like we have an intuitive understanding of each other’s tastes; we’re just good at negotiating and eventually reaching an agreement that pleases both of us. (Except in the garden where I just do stuff and hope he approves… And when it involves more plants, more flowers, he normally does!)
And I don’t know how nice the canoe will be, but it’s dirt-cheap and I’m sure we will have lots of fun with our new toy!
You are very lucky to have such a generous and thoughtful husband. He had good taste too. I may have to show my husband your post.
I haven’t done too badly, I think… Mind you, it’s a two-way street; I do my best to give him the garden of our dreams (eventually).
Really envious of the kayak. We had planned to buy one a couple of years ago but decided we didn’t have enough free time to use it. Maybe once hubby has finished his degree we might get one. At the moment if we’re somewhere were we want to get out on the water we just hire one. I love the idea of slowly gliding around fjords. It sounds blissful, your summerhouse in the country. We spent 2 weeks in Scotland last year and the lochs there would have been perfect for kayaking. I love how you’re so quiet in a kayak you can get up really close to wildlife.
Love the painting too. Gorgeous colours and very dreamy.
I’ve been kayaking since I was 11, so I’ve wanted one for many years, and then my husband surprised me by buying me one as a wedding present. Loads of childhood vacations were spent kayaking around the Swedish Lakes, camping in the wild and bringing everything with us.
And of course our summer house is at the tip of a peninsula between two fjords, so we have plenty of calm waters to roam. (Though I suspect I go further in my single racing kayak than we will together in the less sleek inflatable canoe…)
